Magnitude-6.6 quake rocks Moro Gulf area in Mindanao


A magnitude-6.6 quake rocked the Moro Gulf area in Mindanao Sunday evening, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) traced the epicenter to 82 km west of Cotabato City, according to a report on dzBB radio early Monday. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity II in General Santos City and Padada town in Davao del Sur. It said the quake was felt at Intensity I in Davao City and in Tarragona town in Davao Oriental. The United States Geological Service said the quake was recorded at 6:58 p.m., adding the epicenter was also 125 km south of Pagadian, Mindanao; 155 km east of Zamboanga; or 915 km south-southeast of Manila. The quake is one of the most recent of the string of temblors Mindanao experienced in recent months. Among these are the magnitude-4.3 quake on October 1, 2009; magnitude-5.4 on September 18, 2009; and the magnitude-5.7 quake in May. - GMANews.TV
