Cops step up hunt for bus driver in Bataan tragedy


Police in Bataan province have intensified their hunt for a bus driver in an accident that killed at least three people last Sunday. Radio dwIZ reported early Monday that police have yet to find Sonny Ricafort, who fled after the accident at 6:30 a.m. in Bagac town in Bataan. The local police said they are still looking for leads on Ricafort's whereabouts, citing witnesses' testimonies Ricafort was speeding shortly before the crash. On the other hand, the number of injured in Sunday's accident rose to 71. Of the 71 injured, 17 were in critical condition. Most of those injured suffered fractures and head injuries, the report said. Initial investigation showed the tourist bus (TXZ-508) was heading for a beach resort from Quezon City when it went out of control and crashed into a tree. The bus was negotiating a sharp curve along Governor Linao Avenue in Binukawan village when it crashed. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
