Another Binay to lead Makati City
Makati City will still be led by the Binay family after another member of the political clan won in the mayoral race in the May 10 polls. GMA Network reported early Tuesday that Councilor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. was proclaimed mayor-elect of Makati by the city board of canvassers by garnering total votes of 121,088. His closest rival, outgoing Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado, only got 77,389 votes. Other rivals for the city's top elective post were Erwin Genuino, former senator Agapito "Butz" Aquino and Edmundo Tagalog. Among those who witnessed the proclamation rites were outgoing Mayor Jejomar Binay and his wife, Elenita. The elder Binay himself is leading in the vice presidential race based on partial and unofficial consolidation of election returns as of early Tuesday.
