Noynoy not amused by calls for Kris to leave town

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac – Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III is not amused by calls posted on a social networking site for his sister Kris Aquino-Yap to fulfill her promise to go on self-exile abroad, once he becomes president. Aquino, in a press conference here, assumed a serious tone in defending his sister from Facebook users who joined the “Kris Aquino’s Despedida" page in throngs and posted comments of all kinds, from the whimsical to the nasty. (See: Hello Noynoy in polls, goodbye Kris on Facebook?) “She [Kris] is a citizen of the Republic, she has not committed any crime, why should she leave the country? And I guess those are the same people, di mo ma-please lahat (you cannot please anybody)," he said. Besides, he said that if Aquino-Yap leaves for abroad, she would leave behind Joshua and Baby James, her children by actor Phillip Salvador and basketball star James Carlos Yap.
Aquino, who leads his rivals by a wide margin in the presidential race, also questioned those pushing for Kris’ self-exile whether they were likening her to “the present tenant of Malacañang," obviously referring to outgoing President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. “Ano ang dahilan, ano ang nagawa niya, ano ang allegations na may mali siyang ginawa? Perhaps to the same degree as someone who presently resides in Malacañang? Walang allegation pero kailangan may punishment (What has she done? What are the allegations of wrongdoing against her? Did she do wrong to the same degree as the present tenant of Malacañang? There is no allegation against her but she must be punished)?" he said. “Sorry, I don’t think that’s fair," he added. More than 7,000 Facebook users have clicked the “like" button in the newly-created page called “Kris Aquino’s Despedida." Kris, known for her frankness, had said that she is willing to move abroad if she would be the cause of distress of her brother if he becomes president. In the “Kris Aquino’s Despedida" Facebook page were calls for Kris to make good on her promise. Some were even offering to help her pack her bags or give her a ride to the airport. Others suggested ideas for a despedida party. The creator of the page, however, said the page was just for fun.—JV, GMANews.TV
