PNoy, Black Eyed Peas' Apl.de.ap talk about charity

They bonded over talks of charity. In his courtesy call on President Benigno Aquino III on Thursday, Black Eyed Peas' member and Filipino-American artist Apl.de.ap proposed several charity projects he wants to initiate in the Philippines. He also gave President Aquino, a music fan, a CD of his group's latest album, The Beginning, as a token of gratitude. A Palace statement said one of the projects that Apl.de.ap, whose real name is Allan Pineda Lindo Jr., proposed was the "Second Room Program," where additional classrooms will be built through his APL Foundation in cooperation with the private sector. The classrooms will be particularly built in Pampanga, Apl.de.ap's home province. The hip-hop star said he has allotted an initial amount of $100,000 for the project, which will also provide reading materials to students. Apl.de.ap, who is in the Philippines for the holidays, said he will be back on February 25 next year to take part in the commemoration of the EDSA Revolution, where a people power uprising ushered Aquino's mother, the late Corazon Aquino, to the presidency. Apl.de.ap was born in Sapang Bato, Angeles City in Pampanga to a Filipina mother and an African-American father. He was adopted by an American family when he was 14 and subsequently moved to Los Angeles, California. He later co-formed the Grammy-winning Black Eyed Peas, which has scored several hit songs worldwide. - KBK, GMANews.TV
