Stabbing of Ricky Rivero case closed, police say

A robbery and frustrated murder complaint will be filed against the suspect in the stabbing of actor-director Ricky Rivero, which according to the chief investigator of the case is already a closed case. Senior Inspector Romulo Terrado of the Quezon City Police District Station 10 said Hans Ivan Ruiz will undergo inquest proceedings at the Quezon City Fiscal’s Office on Tuesday afternoon. "Case closed na in the sense na ‘yung suspek namin iisa lang. Pangalawa, lahat naman ng nanakaw na items, na-recover na," he said in an interview over GMA News' "Unang Balita." Terrado said Rivero himself positively identified Ruiz as his attacker. The victim also informed police that money was the suspect's motive in stabbing him. "Ayon sa biktima, parang humihingi ng pera [yung suspek]. Parang may sakit daw ang parents. Nagulat sya pagtulog niya bigla na lang pinagsasaksak. Tapos nagkagulo na," he said.

Rivero was rushed to the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City on Monday after sustaining 17 stab wounds from the attack. The incident happened inside Rivero’s residence in Diliman, where he let Ruiz, whom he met through the social networking site Facebook, stay for the night. Rivero is currently in stable condition at the St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City, a separate report aired over GMA News's "Balitanghali" said. Terrado likewise advised Filipinos who use Facebook to be wary of persons they meet through it. "Ang paulit-ulit natin sinasabi na wag magtitiwala sa mga taong hindi kilala lalo na sa Facebook na yan, lalo na kung may kaya ka," he said. — Andreo C. Calonzo/KBK, GMA News
