Anti-child abuse Facebook community page hacked

A hacker hit the “Para Sa Mga Bata" Facebook community page early Sunday evening, prompting page administrators to act quickly to secure the social network that had helped bring down sanctions upon a game show for broadcasting on national television the tearful dance of a six-year-old boy in front of a laughing studio audience. (See: Social Media’s role in Willie’s downfall.) The hacker first posted on the community page’s Wall, “kablam!" Then a minute later, it was followed by a taunt “you don’t know what I can do." After less than half an hour or around 6:30 p.m., the other page administrators regained control of the community page and deleted the hacker’s messages from the community’s Wall. The final message of the hacker was this threat: “I HAVE THE POWER TO DELETE THIS PAGE."

In an email sent to GMA News Online, one of the page administrators, through whose personal Facebook account the community page was hacked, narrated the incident: “I logged out from my personal account to check the Para Sa Mga Bata individual account. After I had updated the PSMB account, I logged out from it and when I tried accessing my personal account, I was told that my password was changed. That was when these messages from the Para Sa Mga Bata twitter account appeared on my twitter timeline, that was when I messaged all of my friends that my personal account is hacked."

The hacker even gloated on the administrator’s Wall, saying “ANG DALI NAMAN PALANG HULAAN NITONG ACCOUNT NA ITO." Last week, two congressmen urged that social network security even be taught in elementary and high school levels for their own protection. Last month, internet security firm Symantec came out with a report warning that the emergence of social media and proliferation of mobile devices have provided new avenues for cyber attacks. — Marlon Tonson/KBK, GMA News
