Classes suspended in NCR, other areas in Luzon due to 'Juaning'


The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended classes in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other parts of Luzon on Wednesday due to heavy rains brought by Tropical Storm "Juaning." There are no classes in the NCR for public and private preschool, elementary, high school, and college levels. Classes are also suspended in Central Luzon (Region III) and CALABARZON (Region IV-A) for public and private pre-school, elementary and high School levels. Classes are likewise suspended for public and private pre-school and elementary levels in Occidental Mindoro, as well as for the pre-school level in Abra, Apayao, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Benguet, Isabela Cagayan and Nueva Vizcaya. Based on the recommendations of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and a directive of Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda also announced the suspension of tertiary classes in Metro Manila on Wednesday. Both chambers of the Philippine Congress have also suspended sessions today. The death toll from the storm rose to at least 15 early Wednesday, even as at least 31 were injured and nine remained missing.according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. As of Wednesday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has placed Metro Manila and 19 other ares in Luzon under Storm Signal Number 2:
