NDRRMC: Death toll from 'Juaning' now 31


The death toll from Tropical Storm Juaning (Nock-Ten) rose to at least 31 while at least 27 people remained missing as of Thursday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the fatalities included 23 from Bicol, four from Southern Luzon, one each in Marinduque in Region IV-B, Iloilo in Western Visayas, Siquijor in Central Visayas and Las Piñas City in Metro Manila. However, the NDRRMC did not list the two policemen who were buried in a landslide late Wednesday in Ifugao province as among the fatalities. The most recent fatalities on the NDRRMC's list were identified as:

  • Alexandra Arandilla, of Iba, Dupay in Quezon province (previously reported missing)
  • Rodolfo Oscadin, 75, of Mogpog, Marinduque (drowning)
  • Alfredo Manibale, 73, of Bato, Catanduanes (fell while fixing roof)
  • Rickson Villasana of Bagamanoc, Catanduanes (drowning)
  • Marvin Barrios of Labo, Camarines Norte (miner)
  • Joven Dator, 7, of Talon Uno, Las Piñas City (drowning)
  • Felix Berta Dacuba Clet, 74, Tiwi, Albay (electrocuted)
  • Estring Leonisa, 76, Libon, Albay (hit by fallen tree)
  • Rico Millena Llamera, 33, Daraga, Albay (drowning)
  • Demetrio Nace, Pio Duran, Albay (hit by fallen tree)
  • JR Warde Nace, 3, Pio Duran, Albay (hit by fallen tree)
  • Roque Sapico, 23, Tabaco City, Albay (drowning)
  • Sanito Diones Timato, 49, Viga, Catanduanes (previously reported missing)

At least 52 survivors were found or rescued, including 16 fishermen in Marinduque and 12 in Masbate. The NDRRMC said Juaning has so far affected 130,225 families or 648,362 people. As of 11 p.m. Wednesday, there were 714 people stranded in Bicol. The situation in Southern Luzon had returned to normal, the NDRRMC said. Dams At 4 p.m. Wednesday, Ipo Dam opened one gate at 0.3 meter, releasing water at 45.8 cubic meters per second. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Ipo's gate was closed at midnight Wednesday. In its dam monitoring as of 6 a.m. Thursday, PAGASA said only Ipo had a water level higher than its spilling level. PAGASA said that as of 6 a.m., Ipo's water level was 100.29 meters, above the spilling level of 100.20 meters. The water levels of major dams in Luzon were lower than their spilling levels as of Thursday morning, PAGASA added. As of 2 a.m. Thursday, many power lines that tripped due to Juaning were re-energized except for the 69-kv Tiwi-Malinao-Tabaco line, which was still being inspected. But as of 9 p.m. Wednesday, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon and Camarines Norte still have no power. Meanwhile, at least nine bridges in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley and Bicol and 22 road sections in Central and Southern Luzon, Bicol and Cordillera remained impassable due to floods, landslides and mudflows. — LBG, GMA News
