CHED to meet with stakeholders on setting up Twitter account

The Commission on Higher Education will convene a meeting with some stakeholders on Friday to discuss details on how to best set-up online social networking system linking the agency to the public, CHED Executive Director, Atty. Julito D. Vitriolo said. CHED's move came a day after the Office of the President revealed through Twitter that the agency does not have its own Twitter account. In a text message, Vitriolo told GMA News Online that associations of schools will be consulted in the meeting. A standing policy at CHED on the suspension of classes is to let the colleges and universities make their respective announcements. But, while Tropical Depression Juaning battered Luzon with heavy rains and winds of up to 100 kph, the Palace intervened and suspended tertiary level classes in the National Capital Region. Malacañang, through @govph, tweeted that it "verified with CHED, the commission has no Twitter account. The accounts posing as CHED are not official." This tweet, sent at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday, was retweeted at least 100 times. Some Twitter users, upon learning from @govph that CHED is absent on the social networking hub, suggested the agency should set up its own account so it can send tweets. Last Wednesday evening, the Twitter account @OfficialCHEDph was still operating, but by late Thursday morning it was already inactive and unavailable. The account sent out only five tweets and did not include any link to the official CHED website. — LBG, GMA News
