Mikey willing to help guard allegedly mauled by solon

Ang Galing Pinoy party-list Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo on Tuesday expressed willingness to help the security guard allegedly mauled by a congressman in Quezon City last week. "My office is always open for those who would seek my help," Arroyo said in a text message to reporters. Arroyo, who represents security guards and tricycle drivers in the lower chamber, said he had already instructed his staff to get a copy of the police report on the alleged mauling incident. According to Arroyo, he is in Cebu visiting the families of the two security guards killed in a recent bank robbery there. Both Arroyo and Pangandaman belong to the House minority bloc. Ricardo Bonayog, a security guard from Eagle Watch agency, on Wednesday reported to the police that a congressman “boxed" him several times to the ground at the UP-Ayala Technohub in Quezon City. Although not identified in the police report, Lanao del Sur Rep. Mohammed Hussein Pangandaman came out on Monday to deny that he mauled the guard. Pangandaman, who was also embroiled in a mauling incident at a golf course in 2009, said he hit Bonayog with rolled-up pieces of paper when the security guard was in the act of drawing his firearm. No complaint, no probe For his part, Majority Floor Leader Neptali Gonzales II meanwhile said the House cannot start any investigation of the reported mauling incident unless Bonayog files a complaint before the House ethics committee. "There must be a formal complaint so that whoever is being complained of, meron din naman time to defend himself para naman hindi one-sided lang ang allegations," Gonzales said at a press briefing on Tuesday afternoon. He added that Bonayog should also be willing to face the House panel under oath to explain his version of the incident. "Kung sa palagay niya na totoo na aggrieved siya, he can institute all the necessary allegations against whoever is responsible," Gonzales said. Gonzales further said that Pangandaman may face suspension or even expulsion if the House committee finds him liable for disorderly behavior. The Quezon City Police District also said that it cannot act on Bonayog’s claim that he was punched by a congressman since the security guard did not file a formal complaint on the incident. — RSJ, GMA News
