Govt offices open again, some classes still suspended Wednesday


Work in government offices and classes in some schools resume on Wednesday, according to Malacañang late Tuesday, after it received word from state weather forecasters that rain conditions will improve as Typhoon Pedring moves further away from Luzon. “Following the recommendation of PAGASA, there will be a resumption of classes in schools and work in government offices, except in affected areas where a suspension of classes and/or work has already been declared by the local government and/or the Department of Education," Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a text message to reporters “Based on Department of Science and Technology's latest output models, rain tomorrow in the National Capital Region will be mostly light to occasionally moderate," Valte added. She clarified that local government officials and school administrators still have the discretion to suspend classes in areas that remain flooded and where there are continuing power outages. Classes will remain suspended in four elementary schools in Metro Manila, the Department of Education (DepEd) said. In its Twitter account, the DepEd said classes will remain suspended in these schools: Bagong Silangan Elementary School in Quezon City; Sucat and Cupang Elementary Schools in Muntinlupa City; and - P. Guevarra Elementary School in Manila. The DepEd earlier announced suspension of classes in Marikina, Malabon and Navotas on Wednesday.

Universities and colleges Only the elementary and high school classes in the University of the East’s Manila and Caloocan campuses were suspended as of Tuesday evening. UE Manila and UE Caloocan college classes resume Wednesday according to the university's president Dr. Ester Albano-Garcia through a tweet on Official_UE. Ateneo de Manila University said classes resume in all levels Sept. 28. The university said on its Facebook account that the Ateneo High School will follow its regular schedule and will even have “org period" on Wednesday. Centro Escolar University (CEU) said through its official CEU Makati Twitter account that classes in their Makati and Manila campuses resume in all levels. The University of Santo Tomas said, via its Facebook and Twitter accounts for its Quadricentennial celebrations, that classes on Sept. 28 are suspended at all levels. Adamson University announced through its official Twitter account that it will have no classes on Wednesday. Commission on Higher Education: University of the East: Ateneo de Manila University: Adamson University: University of Santo Tomas: The Commission on Higher Education explained that for areas under Storm Signal No. 2, school administrators have the prerogative to suspend classes. — ELR/VS, GMA News
