P100k reward up for info on Charice dad's killer

A P100,000 reward was offered on Tuesday for information that would lead to the arrest of the suspect in the killing of the father of international singing sensation Charice Pempengco. Chief Superintendent Ferdie Kraft, police chief of San Pedro town in Laguna where the crime was committed, said local authorities offered the reward to effect the immediate arrest of suspect Angel Capili, who allegedly stabbed Ricky Pempengco shortly before midnight on Monday. San Pedro Mayor Calixto Cataquiz gave P50,000 as reward while Laguna Governor Jeorge Ejercito Estregan Jr. offered P30,000, according to Kraft. The remaining P20,000 came from the Laguna provincial police, he added. Kraft likewise said that local cops have proceeded to Cavite province to look for Capili after they failed to locate the suspect near the crime scene in Barangay Laram in San Pedro town. He added that Capili remains to be their primary suspect, since witnesses have positively identified him as the one who stabbed the elder Pempengco.

An initial investigation on the incident showed that Capili stabbed the victim, who was reportedly drunk at that time, at least twice in the chest in front of the store in the area. Authorities are currently eyeing personal grudge as motive for the killing. Charice, for her part, revealed on her Twitter page that she was upset by some of her relatives’ negative reactions regarding her feelings on her father’s death. She said she had the right to be sad about the incident, adding that she has always wanted to visit her father when he was still alive. — Andreo Calonzo/RSJ, GMA News
