BFP to intensify Christmas lights inspections in NCR

With just a month to go before Christmas, the Bureau of Fire Protection in Metro Manila said it will intensify its inspections for substandard Christmas lights.

The BFP in Metro Manila plans to inspect malls and business establishments to make sure the Christmas lights do not cause fires, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported.

BFP Metro Manila head Chief Superintendent Santiago Laguna said substandard Christmas lights tend to short easily and start fires.

Laguna reminded the public to check Christmas lights for the proper import commodity clearance (ICC) and Philippine Standard seals.

The dzBB report said the BFP also advised the public to inspect the electrical connections of other appliances to make sure the connections are secure and will not short easily.

He encouraged the public to call the Interior Department's "117" hotline to report fires.

Earlier this week, the Department of Trade and Industry held inspections of malls for defective and substandard Christmas lights.
